We celebrated Thanksgiving with some friends from Colorado who live here in Singapore, and it was so wonderful!
Actually, it wasn't very Singaporean at all... if you're willing to pay double for it, you can find just about any American food you want.
So what are some of the essentials to an American thanksgiving? (With a few tweaks.)
A man graciously wearing an apron and carving the turkey (or in our case, roasted chicken, since we didn't feel like paying $70+ for a Butterball!).
Sweet potato casserole. :)
Cornbread stuffing!
These mashed potatoes are sooo creamy... (and kept warm in a rice cooker--brilliant!)
Delicious green salad
(This one is the Mandarin Orange salad from Colorado Cache... it was fun to be with friends who love the same cookbooks as we do!)
Cute, hungry kids :)
A tickle monster.
A very full table of yumminess (the green bean casserole is also pictured, front and center).
Soft, squishy rolls, cranberry punch, and a cute kid.
(Not pictured but also present: cranberry sauce and gravy.)
After dinner, we had an intermission for digestion and the Denver Broncos.
(It was a rerun, and we all knew how it turned out, but that's not the point). :)
Then one of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions...
Grains of rice. Well, we usually use 5 popcorn kernels to represent the minuscule amounts of food the pilgrims had to eat the first winter. But we thought it would be fun to use rice instead, since we're in Asia.
We took turns listing things we were thankful for, one for each grain of rice. The especially neat part was that we were asked us to share at least one thing from the past year that was HARD, but that we were still thankful for.
This took the sharing to a whole new level, and it was so encouraging to hear from each person!
Don't worry, we didn't forget the pies!
Pecan pie...
And pumpkin! :)
