One of the interesting aspects of our trip was the transition from winter to summer in the course of a week. In New York there was still snow on the ground and nothing growing at all. Only one week later, in North Carolina, it was a different story.
We happened to be in Charleston, South Carolina, on the day of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the civil war and the battle at Fort Sumter (that is a 13" mortar we are standing around).
We didn't actually get out to the Fort (which is on an island), but we did enjoy posing with the weapons displayed in the park.
For some reason, though, it is hard to take us seriously when people are relaxing on benches in the background.
